Servicing your Australian climbing wall and ensuring routine inspections and maintenance are upheld is essential to provide a safe environment for all climbers using it. Safety issues are an inherent part of climbing, but Discovery Climbing is committed to making each part of the servicing and maintenance process as simple as possible. Not only will this protect you and everyone using your wall, but it reduces the prospect of liability and other risks.

Climbing walls must conform to the current Australian Safety Standards (Climbing Walls AS 2316.1.1:2021 and Bouldering Walls AS 2316.1.2:2021), which dictate a specific maintenance and servicing schedule. This involves routine visual inspections, operational inspections, and comprehensive annual inspections. All of these must be undertaken by a competent person and recorded.

    • a 6-month Inspection Template,
    • Commissioning Inspection,
    • an Installation Warranty,
    • the daily, weekly, monthly and annual Maintenance Tasks/Schedules,
    • Operating Techniques,
    • a Climbing Guide,

    • a Record of Trained Operators sheet,
    • a Risk Management Plan,
    • a SOR Activity Plan,

    • Safety Certificates for all the climbing gear and equipment,
    • and a Workplace Health and Safety Policy Statement.

Our goal is to ensure the safety of all climbers and avoid incidents, so we encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding servicing your Australian climbing wall. Additionally, we offer training and qualifications so that you can feel confident in the ability of your staff to support climbers’ safety and meet Australian Safety Standards.

Caring for your Automatic Belay

Perfect Descent Logo

Discovery Climbing is proud to be the Australian Distributors for the Perfect Descent automatic belay product range. The Perfect Descent Climbing system is a controlled descent device to be used in the place of a normal top rope system. It eliminates the need for a belayer, which makes it a popular device for many commercial and personal rock climbing walls.

Perfect Descent recommends a planned lifespan of 15 years for each automatic belay device, although this may be reduced by the intensity of use. Like all climbing gear, automatic belays must be inspected before each use and must be serviced regularly to align with Australian Safety Standards.

Proper maintenance of Perfect Descent automatic belays necessitates the return of the unit to C3 Manufacturing LLC (or to a Factory Authorized Service Center) at least every twelve months. However, at any earlier time that a competent person inspection suggests the need to remove the unit from use, it should be returned for factory inspection and recertification. As such, it is recommended that routine visual inspections are performed regularly and that the device is cleaned.

Not sure which automatic belay unit you have? Give us a call today and we can let you know.
